The definitive guide to Montreal hotels

Not sure where to stay during your next trip to Montreal? Whether you prefer the hustle of downtown or the quiet streets of the picturesque ancient port, here is a list of my favourite hotels in the city, from Old-Montreal to cosy Plateau Mont-Royal.

< $150 = $
< $250 = $$
> $250 = $$$

(Pssst… if hotels aren’t your thing, I curated a list of Montreal Airbnb apartments for you. Don’t forget to use my code to get a $30 discount!)

Hotel Monville

Hotel Monville

HOTELMONVILLE.COM
1041 rue de bleury, downtown montreal
$$

William Gray

421 rue st-vincent, old montreal
$$

Le Petit Hôtel

168 rue ST-PAUL OUEST, OLD MONTREAL
$$

Intimate boutique hotel with a European flair and a café in the lobby. Indeed, Le Petit Hôtel has lots of character!

W Montreal

901 SQUARE VICTORIA, OLD MONTREAL
$$$

Now, I’m not in the habit of recommending hotel chains but this one is different. The sexy, classy property straddles both Old Montreal and downtown and was recently restyled to the latest standards (think ample power sockets, splendid walk-in showers, and sleek features).

If you’re an SPG member, the W Montreal is definitely worth considering.

Hôtel 10

10 rue SHERBROOKE OUEST, DOWNTOWN montreal
$$

Sleek, intimate boutique hotel set in a 1915 art-nouveau townhouse close to everything. Hotel 10 is about to get one of the hottest patios in town, too.

Alt Hotel

120 rue PEEL, GRIFFINTOWN
$

Affordable luxury: the amenities of an eco-friendly 4* hotel, minus the frills. Egyptian cotton bedding and Italian furniture, sans mini-bar or bellboy. That is the ALT promise. The hotel is located in the up-and-coming, post-industrial GRIFFINTOWN district just a few minutes south of downtown. Ask for rooms ending in 11-14 for the best views of downtown Montreal and Mont-Royal.

Hotel Zero1

1 boulevard RENÉ-LÉVESQUE EST, DOWNTOWN montreal
$

Hotel Zero1 is of the most cost-efficient Montreal hotels! The location is unbeatable and the rooms are sober, yet stylish and very modern. Good to know: the airport shuttle bus stops right across the street.

Hotel St Paul

355 avenue MCGILL, OLD MONTREAL
$$

Historical Beaux-arts graded building? Check. Modern, minimalist rooms with wooden floors and large windows? Unbeatable location near St. Lawrence River and the quaint streets of the old town? An in-house restaurant famous for its charcuterie platters? Check. Check. Check! No wonder Hotel St Paul is Canada’s first Design Hotel™! This property caters to savvy travellers with a taste for the finer things in life, for understated yet tasteful luxury.

Hôtel Nelligan

106 rue ST-PAUL OUEST, OLD MONTREAL
$$$

Hôtel Nelligan is an upscale historic hotel with exposed brick walls and a sought-after rooftop terrace.

Hotel Gault

449 rue Sainte-Hélène / Old-Montreal
$$$

Hotel Place d’Armes
